The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEIC), according to the ASCI bylaws, “ensures that the organization, its programs, and its mentoring mechanisms promote and recognize diversity, inclusion, and equity.”
2023–2025 Committee leadership:

The DEIC, since its founding in 2019, has led and/or counseled on the following ASCI projects:
Foundational materials
- Definitions document: developed to establish a common understanding of the terms diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to define underrepresented in medicine and science (UiMS) in reference to populations that are underrepresented relative to their numbers in the general US population.
- Demographic information collector: for application in all areas of the ASCI that was initiated in 2022 for all new members and award nominees. The data collected will allow us to determine the current population makeup, areas needing attention, and changes over time. Members: If you have not already done so, please provide your demographic details through your member account. All response areas are voluntary, information will be kept confidential, and data will be deidentified for any reporting.

- The Louis W. Sullivan, MD, Award, recognizing a physician-scientist identifying as UiMS

Forthcoming program
