The ASCI / Harrington Prize for Innovation in Medicine is a collaboration between the ASCI and the Harrington Discovery Institute at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. The Prize, established with its first recipient in 2014, honors a physician-scientist who has moved science forward with achievements notable for innovation, creativity, and potential for clinical application. The Prize carries a $20,000 honorarium, a lectureship at the ASCI’s annual meeting, and publication of a personal essay in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

The eleventh annual Harrington Prize for Innovation in Medicine is awarded to Arlene H. Sharpe, MD, PhD, for her breakthrough discoveries in immune regulation, which have established foundational principles in immunology and led to new cancer therapies that act by boosting the immune response to cancer.
Jean Bennett, MD, PhD, and Albert M. Maguire, MD
The tenth annual Harrington Prize for Innovation in Medicine is jointly awarded to Jean Bennett, MD, PhD, and Albert M. Maguire, MD, for the team’s groundbreaking translational research to restore sight in inherited genetic diseases.
James E. Crowe, Jr., MD, and Michel C. Nussenzweig, MD, PhD
The ninth annual Harrington Prize for Innovation in Medicine is jointly awarded to James E. Crowe, Jr., MD, and Michel C. Nussenzweig, MD, PhD, for their groundbreaking work that has elucidated fundamental principles of the human immune response and enabled the use of human antibodies to treat COVID-19.
Warren J. Leonard, MD, and John J. O’Shea, MD
The eighth annual Harrington Prize for Innovation in Medicine is jointly awarded to Warren J. Leonard, MD, NHLBI, NIH Distinguished Investigator, and John J. O’Shea, MD, Scientific Director, NIAMS, NIH, for their respective contributions to the field of immunology, from fundamental discovery to therapeutic impact.

The seventh annual Harrington Prize for Innovation in Medicine has been awarded to Stuart H. Orkin, MD, the David G. Nathan Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.

The sixth annual Harrington Prize for Innovation in Medicine has been awarded to Carl H. June, MD, the Richard W. Vague Professor in Immunotherapy in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine.
Helen H. Hobbs, MD
The fifth annual Harrington Prize for Innovation in Medicine has been awarded to Helen H. Hobbs, MD, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
Daniel J. Drucker, MD, Joel F. Habener, MD, and Jens J. Holst, MD, DMSc
The fourth annual Harrington Prize for Innovation in Medicine has been jointly awarded to Daniel J. Drucker, MD (Mount Sinai Hospital, Canada), Joel F. Habener, MD (Massachusetts General Hospital, USA) and Jens J. Holst, MD, DMSc (University of Copenhagen, Denmark) for their discovery of incretin hormones and for the translation of these findings into transformative therapies for major metabolic diseases such as diabetes.
