The ASCI PSSF Advisory Committee is made up of the founders and board members of the former Physician-Scientist Support Foundation (PSSF). The committee promotes the ASCI’s commitment to develop training pathways for emerging physician-scientists stewards and ambassadors of the ASCI PSSF Fellowship – a fully funded, gap-year opportunity previously known as the Medical Scholars Research Fellowship (MSRF).

The PSSF was established in 2017 when a small collective of practicing physician-researchers, Nobel laureates, and senior pharmaceutical executives assembled to address the precipitous shortage of clinicians with formal training in biomedical research.

In an effort to revitalize the physician-scientist workforce, the group established the MSRF to create a pipeline for MD-only students to engage in rigorous training with research mentors. In 2024, the ASCI subsumed the PSSF. With oversight from the ASCI Council, the ASCI PSSF Advisory Committee members remain dedicated advisors and mentors to the ASCI PSSF Fellows.
