The American Society for Clinical Investigation is proud to present the ASCI Scientific Sessions: a bi-monthly spotlight on distinguished investigators and their contributions to biomedical research. The Scientific Sessions are free and open to all, with a goal to create a space for our community, beyond the ASCI’s annual meeting, to gather and celebrate discovery.

Rohit Loomba, MD, MHSc, is Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of California, San Diego, and is an internationally recognized thought leader in translational research and innovative clinical trial design in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and non-invasive assessment of liver disease using advanced imaging modalities.

Dr. Loomba is the founding director of the UCSD MASLD Research Center, where a multi-disciplinary team of researchers conduct cutting edge research in all aspects of MASLD resulting in several innovative applications including establishment of MRI-PDFF as a non-invasive biomarker of treatment response in early phase trials in NASH, which has now been adopted in more than 100 clinical trials conducted worldwide. Dr. Loomba also serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of numerous biotechnology and large pharmaceutical companies and guides clinical drug development and biomarker discovery programs globally.

Dr. Loomba has been consistently listed among the top 1% of the globally highly cited scientists across all fields since 2019 by Web of Science, and is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI), and the Association of American Physicians (AAP).

This session will be moderated by Christopher Williams, MD, PhD, Professor of Medicine, Associate Dean, Physician Scientist Education and Training, and MSTP Director at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Williams is co-founder of the ASCI’s Physician-Scientist Development Committee.
