Description

The American Society for Clinical Investigation is proud to present the ASCI Scientific Sessions: a bi-monthly spotlight on distinguished investigators and their contributions to biomedical research. The Scientific Sessions are free and open to all, with a goal to create a space for our community, beyond the ASCI’s annual meeting, to gather and celebrate discovery.
Funda Meric-Bernstam, MD, is the Chair of the Department of Investigational Cancer Therapeutics – the Phase I Program, the Medical Director of the Institute for Personalized Cancer Therapy, and The Nellie B. Connally Chair in Breast Cancer at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Meric-Bernstam is a clinical trialist with a focus on decision support for precision oncology, biomarker-driven clinical trials, and antibody-drug conjugates. She is a physician-scientist with a basic and translational research program investigating cell signaling, biomarker discovery and molecular therapeutics in patient-derived models.
Dr. Meric-Bernstam received her MD from Yale University and completed her residency in general surgery at the University of Michigan, a postdoctoral fellowship in gene regulation at the National Institutes of Health, and a research fellowship in molecular cellular oncology and a fellowship in surgical oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Among her many honors, Dr. Meric-Bernstam is the recipient of the Flance-Karl Award from the American Surgical Society, and the James Ewing Lecturer Award from the Society of Surgical Oncology. She was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2024, and to ASCI membership in 2016.
This event will be moderated by Rajan Jain, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine and Cell and Developmental Biology, and Founding Co-Director, Penn Measey Scholars in Molecular Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Jain is a member of the ASCI Council and the Physician-Scientist Development Committee.
